Course Reflection Letter

This semester was definitely not easy, it was a learning period for me and I intend to use everything I learned to continuously get better. Personally, english has always been one subject I was a little stronger in than with other subjects. This class, first year comp, has actually taught me a lot, not just about writing but about college. It was one of the classes I took that helped me adjust to this new lifestyle the most. It’s sort  of to explain or put in words how it helped in this way, but it this classed really pushed me to work harder even when I didn’t want to or had the motivation too. Now, actually speaking academically, I think one of the assignments we did that really helped me learn the most was the most recent one, our research paper. I actually had fun learning how I needed to adjust my writing style to properly write a research paper, it was something that was somewhat new. I think this assignment definitely allowed me to develop my writing skills. I also feel like another really significant thing to me was all the time we spent going over how to properly cite specific things in different ways.

I think the essays that I am putting in my portfolio are a good reflection of my progress as a writer from the beginning of this year until now. All the assignments tested my abilities as a writer, whether it was my ability to think fast or have perfect grammar, there was always a combination of challenges I needed to focus on to ensure that I was growing and trying to be the best writer I could be. One essay in particular I always look back on is my literacy narrative because it wasn’t completely sound technically, I felt like I did a really good job of pouring a personal story about myself and a family onto pages. I was able to really portray what I was feeling into my essay, I will admit it was not my best writing and I am very much still learning but that was one thing of that specific paper I really liked. Oddly, I thought the in-class essay was going to one of the ones I did better on, seeing as I had written numerous in-class essays before, maybe I got into my own head about it but I remember not feeling as prepared as I would have liked. I also remember feeling somewhat stuck while I was writing, usually when writing it’ll take me a minute to gain a train of thought but once I do, it’s pretty easy for me to just flow and write. This semester, in this class, I have had many ups and downs but I am happy with what I am going to be leaving with,  thought this class was actually beneficial to my development as a writer and a college student overall.
